DAIWA Steez C68ML-SV  [SKYRAY 68]

The founder of DAIWA bait finesse has been given a full model change. Following
the HERMIT, which can sense small changes, and the SKYRAY, which has excellent bottom clearance,
which was released at the same time as the start of STEEZ Season 2, another bait finesse model has been released. Its name is ``SKYRAY 68''. In 2011, at the beginning of domestic bait finesse, Shuya Akabane completed the 11SKYRAY along with his unprecedented three consecutive victories at the Basser All-Star, and this time, the 11SKYRAY will be given a full model change along with his overwhelming victory at the Basser All-Star King of Kings held in December 2021.
``The HERMIT is a hard solid tip. It is a model that invites bites with more finesse and delicate operation. In contrast, the SKYRAY has a full tubular structure. It is a slightly stronger design than other bait finesse rods in the world, and has been used as a model that emphasizes ``clearance'' against obstacles on the bottom.''
This is Akabane's answer to bait finesse rods, whose main battlefield is the muddy waters of the Kanto region and the Lake Kasumigaura water system. Between the lines, you can read the more detailed style of use. All of them are centered around lightweight rigs. They are indispensable for the tough modern world.
"Don't tighten the line. The basic operation is to let the line slack. It can also create a natural state when it falls."
The tapered design has tension at the tip and starts to bend around the third guide when the load starts to be applied. The so-called "U-shaped taper" allows the rig to trace around obstacles scattered on the bottom and places with rough bumps. Even if it is stuck, it can lure on the spot, and it can hang off without moving too far from the bottom.
"The high operability is inherited from the original SKYRAY. While dodging stacks in covers and structures, the contact underwater and bites during the fall are clear. The tip section, which exquisitely enters and conveys the bass' bite to your hand, has a different advantage from solid rods, which sense small bumps on the bottom."
The reason for using different bait finesse rods is due to the weight of the rig, the pulling resistance, and the feeling of being stuck on the bottom. And what about hooking performance?
"Repulsive force while bending. The fast taper design and bat power give it the power to automatically handle hooking and reeling in continuously. That is the advantage of SVF COMPILE-X."
Not only is it super sensitive, but the repulsive force due to the overwhelming muscle mass, despite its slim and lightweight body, makes it easy to land from a smooth fight. That is the power that DAIWA's highest carbon technology brings.
"The X45 Full Shield tightens the whole body. That's why the axis doesn't shake. The thinner the rod, the easier it is to twist, but this is suppressed and the hook works well. The force is transmitted well."
Akabane used the power construction that doesn't run away to seek his next order.

BACK TO BASIC. The advantage of long length that shore fishing taught me
The 22 SKYRAY 68, as its name suggests, has a total length of 6ft.8in. Akabane chose the same total length as the 16 SKYRAY Power Plus, known as the power model of the former 11 SKYRAY.
"When I think about it again, the main thing is to cast and then trace and fish. If that's the case, the advantage will be even greater if you can earn a longer casting distance." The days
of bottom tracing that only grazes pin spots are long gone. Longer lengths improve long-distance casting performance, and if there is even the slightest possibility in a zone, you should not hesitate to fight back, which is the Reiwa era of bass fishing. In addition, the fact that it is easy to earn a sufficient stroke when hooking, as well as when mending the line after casting, is a positive factor.
"When pulling through the gaps between crowded bream and washed-up branches, a longer lure makes it easier to pull out. There is no need to stretch your arms when there are obstacles with differences in height."
The original 11 SKYRAY was designed with an emphasis on maneuverability, while the 22 SKYRAY 68 was designed to provide an advantage through its length.
While the fishing conditions are becoming more difficult, the current trend is that "it is not uncommon for fish to bite on the first fall." Even if the number of fish is small, if a fresh fish enters a first-class area, there is an immediate bite.
"Even if you are using a high gear, you may not be able to take up the slack because it is an instantaneous response. Also, the fish may run forward more than you imagined, and you may not be able to set the hook
enough." In the past few years, Akabane has become more aware of the difference in even the slightest stroke. "I realized once again that the 68 on the 16 SKYRAY Power Plus is surprisingly important." Akabane's thoughts were solidifying.
Akabane's biggest motivation was shore fishing. When a boat expert returns to his roots and faces off with a bass rod with his feet on the ground, he is reminded of something new.
"The footing is lower than a boat, and there are limited positions to stand. The length is clearly an advantage when pulling the fish out from under an obstacle. We arrived at this length after fine-tuning everything, including the stroke for setting the hook and the power used to hook the fish."
BACK TO BASIC. Bait finesse is essential in these tough times. This is true whether on a boat or on land.
